Read Bremmer (2012) and McWhorter (2009) before class. If you’re confused by these, chapters 4 and 5 in Algeo will help clarify some things, but you won’t be quizzed on those chapters. There will be a quiz at the start of class.

Choose a potential topic for your final research paper. It should be something that you find interesting, and should be specific rather than general. (For example, just saying “I want to research medial ſ” would be too broad, but you might choose “When and why did ſ disappear from English?”) Mention how you plan to research this topic. 300 words.
